A new report from Today revealed that Kelly Clarkson, the host of the Kelly Clarkson Show, had to lay off her staff temporarily after a few of her employees had contracted COVID-19. Deadline was the first to report that on the 13th of November, Friday, a number of her staff members had tested positive for the contagious illness.
Representatives speaking on behalf of the show confirmed the news of the outbreak but never disclosed any other details on the matter. Thus far, it isn’t known how many people contracted COVID-19, or if Clarkson had caught it.
The last time the show was filmed was on Thursday of last week, and it was supposed to be off the air on Friday. Fans of The Kelly Clarkson Show know filming had already been put on hiatus back in March of this year when the coronavirus pandemic first led to restrictions in the TV business.
While on her Instagram account at the time, Kelly explained how she and her team had to shut the doors for the time being. Even though her staff and crew were sent home, Kelly Clarkson had continued filming episodes from the comfort of her own home in Montana and in Los Angeles.
Back in June of this year, Kelly actually earned her first Emmy Award for outstanding entertainment talk show host. Put simply, the news comes at a particularly turbulent time for Kelly and her employees.
As most know, the coronavirus pandemic led to a lot of closures in the entertainment business this year. For instance, it was just announced this past week that the Real Housewives of Atlanta, from Bravo TV, had been put on hiatus for two weeks.
Even though many shows and productions do whatever they can to ensure the safety of their employees, the virus can still manage to squeeze its way onto the set.
Back in March of this year, it was reported that NBCUniversal had shut down filming on more than 35 of their productions to help thwart the spread of the coronavirus.
