Sony Has Shown Off The PlayStation 5 Media Remote, Which Is Available For Preorder

On Thursday, Sony officially revealed the PlayStation 5 media remote to the world via a blog post. The company touted its ability to seamlessly switch from a gaming experience to a wealth of entertainment content.

Using the official PlayStation 5 media remote, you’ll be able to power your console on and off. You can also use it to navigate through all of the entertainment apps that will be included with the PS5 console. There are built-in play, pause, fast forward, and fast reverse controls for this device.

There will be buttons dedicated to specific apps as well. The PlayStation 5 remote will be able to access Netflix, Spotify, Disney+, and YouTube, all with the press of a button. These buttons are marked on the controller’s surface with the logo of each service.

Twitch, Amazon Prime Video, Peacock, MyCanal, Hulu, and Apple TV have also been confirmed to have apps on the PlayStation 5 when he console releases in just two weeks. These services won’t have dedicated buttons on the controller, however.

“Within the Media space, you’ll no longer need to download entertainment apps through the PS Store,” Sony said on the Official PlayStation blog. “It’s all in the Media space. Creating dedicated Game and Media spaces for the PS5 user experience will make it fast and easy to switch between gaming and entertainment content whenever you want. The PS5 console also features a new Control Center that makes controlling your music easier than ever before, so you can quickly switch between channels, skip, and pause your music.”

There has been a lot of excitement surrounding the release of the PlayStation 5, but some countries are going to have to wait a bit longer than others to get their hands on it.

But not much longer.

The console will release in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand on November 12, 2020. The rest of the world will get the PlayStation 5 exactly one week later on November 19, 2020.

Sony has confirmed that more than 99% of the over 4,000 titles on the PlayStation 4 will work on the PlayStation 5 through backwards compatibility. Many of these games will be enhanced through a service called Game Boost.

Ghost of Tsushima, for example, will run at an unheard of 60 FPS on the new console thanks to Game Boost.
