The next-gen versions of NBA 2K21 are set to launch alongside Microsoft and Sony’s respective consoles in November, so naturally, the developers are slowly rolling out its details prior to launch.
The most popular mode in 2K’s annual NBA game is the MyPlayer/MyCareer mode, which has seen some changes in recent years, and now that the title is coming to next-gen consoles, the developers felt like they needed to change a few things for users who play the game on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

In a recent blog post, 2K talked about the MyPlayer builder in the upcoming next-gen experience and explained how some things will be different, while others will remain the same. Also, they talked about how the game’s community has influenced the changes that are being made for the upcoming next-gen release.
“The next-gen player builder is all about customization,” said 2K in a recent blog post. “We’ve taken in a lot of feedback from the community over the past few years as we’ve evolved the MyPlayer building experience. One thing that we heard loud and clear from you is that you want more options.

“There are [new badges], some revived ones, and some removed ones. The badge point system and equipping process is similar to what you’ve grown accustomed to: perform well in the various categories (Finishing, Shooting, Playmaking, Defense/Rebounding) in any mode to earn badge points, and then apply those points to whatever badges you want within those related categories.”
The current-gen versions of NBA 2K21 launched at the beginning of September to mixed reviews. Then, one month later, an unskippable advertisement was added to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, which is something that 2K has done over the last few years, and as you’d expect, players were outraged.
In response, 2K explained why the aforementioned unskippable advertisement was appearing while players were loading into games, and said that the ad won’t reoccur in the future. Of course, it remains to be seen whether or not 2K will bring the unskippable ads to the game’s next-gen versions.
Below is 2K’s statement regarding the game’s unskippable ads.

As previously noted, the next-gen versions of NBA 2K21 will be available for the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 when both consoles launch next month. The trailers for the next-gen versions have shown a pretty staggering visual leap, but it remains to be seen if the gameplay has also been drastically improved.
