Over the last week, we’ve seen a number of PlayStation 4 titles receive patch updates. The fact that these updates are coming so close to the release of the PlayStation 5 console cannot just be a coincidence.
The PlayStation 5 will be backwards compatible for 99% of the more than 4,000 titles released for the PlayStation 4. What’s more, the next generation console will be making adjustments to these games, improving their loading times and frame rates using a service called Game Boost.

Ghost of Tsushima is one such game that is getting an added boost from the PlayStation 5. Players will be able to experience the feudal Japan epic in an impressive 60 FPS thanks to the power of PS5.
It should also be noted that Ghost of Tsushima was one of several games to see a major update hit in just the last few weeks. That update was part of a large overhaul of the game which also added a new game plus mode and the multiplayer Ghost of Tsushima: Legends mode.

But that’s not the only game to see a well-timed update recently. The Last of Us: Remastered saw a highly beneficial update over the last few days that greatly improved loading times, in some cases by more than 70%.
Starting a new game on The Last of Us: Remastered once took somewhere between 90 seconds and two minutes. After the update, the game loaded up in just 14 seconds. On the PlayStation 5, that is expected to be even faster.
Final Fantasy VII Remake got its first ever update last week, a full six months after it released on April 10, 2020. It stands to reason that, since future installments of Final Fantasy VII Remake will likely be on the PlayStation 5, that Sony and Square Enix have a vested interest in ensuring that the first chapter runs smoothly on the new console.
God of War and God of War 3: Remastered also received updates in recent weeks, which many also believe is part of the PS5 rollout.
Right, so it appears these #PS5 B/C updates that #PS4 games are getting are even having a huge effect on load times on the current gen system.
Case in point: #UntilDawn on #PS4 now doesn't load at all. This tech must have been used in #GhostOfTsushima ??

In the case of Until Dawn on PlayStation 4, a recent update has eliminated loading times completely from the main menu screen.
Sony has touted speed of access as one of the major features of the PlayStation 5. The console has a high bandwidth SSD that is able to boost access speeds to 5.5GB/s. The console also features a hardware unit that is dedicated to file decompression. This is a feature that will also aid in faster load times.
The PlayStation 5 releases in the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand on November 12. The rest of the world will see the PS5 released on November 19.
