Ghost of Tsushima is one of the more memorable PlayStation exclusives in recent memory. It was a huge hit, both with critics and commercially, quickly becoming the fastest selling new original IP in the history of the PlayStation 4.
According to PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, the game’s performance, both commercially and critically, was even larger than Sony had predicted.

“That is the fruit of not massive spending sprees, but of very, very steadily carefully planned organic growth,” he said. “Provably the best example I give. I could obviously talk about Naughty Dog, but they’ve always been making great games. But let’s talk about Ghost of Tsushima, which has been a critical delight and certainly a commercial delight to an extent that we didn’t think it would be. That speaks volumes to the work that Sucker Punch has done to build on their previous canon of work.”
While Ryan did not give specific numbers for the title, we do know that Ghost of Tsushima sold a whopping 2.4 million units in its first three days. Since then, the game has continued to grow in popularity, as many have come to see it as a home run in terms of gameplay and narrative.
Sucker Punch is currently hiring a narrative writer for a new project, which many believe could be a sequel to the extremely popular feudal Japan epic.
Ghost of Tsushima recently saw a huge update, which added two new modes that people have been clamoring for.
The first was a New Game + function for the actual story mode. This is a setting that allows players who have completed the game to go back and start it over with all of the items, weapons, armor, and levels they had when they completed the game initially.
New Game + is a popular feature that a lot of games don’t launch with for some reason. Games like Spider-Man, God of War, and The Last of Us: Part 2 all launched without New Game + and added it later on through free DLC, much as Ghost of Tsushima has done.
Then you have Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. This is an all new multiplayer mode that lets you team up with friends and do battle in some more supernatural settings. Legends has already proven to be a huge hit with the fanbase, seeing more than 2 million matches in its first week, with its first raid special event going on this weekend.
Ghost of Tsushima is currently available on the PlayStation 4 console.
