Capcom Producers Tease Chris Redfield’s Role In Resident Evil Village

One of the biggest questions regarding the latest installment to the Resident Evil series has to do with Chris Redfield’s role, as he seemingly, based on the trailers, has gone from hero to villain, as shortly after appearing in the game’s first trailer, he has one of his henchmen put a bullet in between the eyes of a seemingly innocent woman while Ethan looks on helplessly in terror.

Of course, given that it was a scene in a trailer, the decision to shoot a seemingly innocent woman is shown completely out of context, so we don’t know whether or not Redfield will, in fact, be the antagonist of the series’ eighth main entry.

However, Tsuyoshi Kanda and Pete Fabiano, who are the producers of Resident Evil Village, recently did an interview with Famitsu, where they revealed that Ethan, the game’s main protagonist, didn’t find his way to the Village by chance, but instead, he was brought there intentionally by Chris Redfield. Of course, the producers didn’t reveal why Redfield brought Ethan to the Village.

Some of the other details coming out of the interview with Resident Evil Village’s producers include:

Ethan was brought to the Village by Chris Redfield for unknown reasons. The Village version of Chris Redfield is the same version as we’ve seen in other games. The Village’s human residents are seemingly being protected by the creatures seen in the trailer. The man who was heard speaking in the game’s second trailer will play an integral role in Ethan’s survival. The various monsters in the Village can’t use any language, but they do have a pack mentality and can use weapons. The Village’s residents are as important to the plot as the protagonists themselves.

As of this writing, Resident Evil Village is being billed as a next-generation title, but the developers haven’t ruled out the possibility of the game coming to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

“While Resident Evil Village is being developed specifically for next-generation consoles and PC, we’re looking into delivering the experience on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well. We’re looking into it, but we can’t make any promises, however we will do our best to bring a top-tier survival horror experience to current-generation consoles.”

Resident Evil Village, as of right now, doesn’t have a set release date but is currently scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X sometime next year.
