Saved By The Bell Eliminates Scenes Making Fun Of Selena Gomez’s Kidney Transplant

Page Six reported this week that Saved by the Bell, which was rebooted on NBC, has removed the scenes which made fun of Selena Gomez’s 2017 kidney transplant. In case you missed it, the reboot was in the headlines after it was reported that the show made fun of Gomez and her medical procedure.

This past week, the series was on NBC’s streaming service, Peacock, and it didn’t take long for social media users to catch wind of the episode in question. Reportedly, two students in the show debate the identity of the kidney transplant donor in one episode.

Additionally, graffiti could be seen on the wall that read, “does Selena Gomez even have a kidney?” After social media users complained en masse, NBCUniversal and Peacock said they were sorry and removed the episode.

In a statement to Variety, the organization claimed they would be making a donation to her charity which was set up to help people who are struggling with lupus. Francia Raisa, a close and personal friend of Selena – and the one who donated her kidney to her – explained how she thought other donors could’ve been impacted by the series.

Raisa went on to say on her IG that it wasn’t about her, it was about the other donors who were impacted by the show. This past Saturday, Raisa wrote another post on her Twitter account in which she encouraged other donors and said they weren’t alone.

The star went on to say that their efforts were “appreciated and valued.” As it was previously reported, Selena went under the knife for a kidney transplant in 2017 at a time when she was her most vulnerable.
