Marcus Rashford shocked Paris Saint-Germain once again, as he stunned the French team in the last minutes of the match. His Manchester United won the clash 1-2, opening this Champions League campaign with a very big victory.
Similar to the clash from some two years ago, Rashford was the one who silenced Parc des Princes at the finish of the game. The English forward sent one laser-precise shot from the right side of the box to the far post of PSG‘s goal, with the ball deflecting off the woodwork into the net. It was the 87th minute of the match once that happened.
United took the lead early on from a penalty drawn by Anthony Martial. Bruno Fernandes took the responsibility, and Keylor Navas denied his shot. Yet, the VAR showed that the Costa Rican goalkeeper left the goal line, and the penalty had to be repeated. This time, Fernandes didn’t have any problems.
It needs to be said that United’s goalkeeper, David De Gea, had a marvelous game, stopping several excellent attempts of the home team’s players. However, he couldn’t prevent his teammate Rashford when he scored an own goal in the 55th minute.
Mbappe pressured Manchester’s back line, and there were a couple of situations in which defenders brought him down in the box, but there was no penalty for PSG.
In the end, Rashford shocked the hosts in the moments when the game was open and both teams tried to reach all three points.
The other match in Group H, between Red Bull Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir, ended with the hosts’ routine win, 2-0.
Chelsea and Sevilla performed without goals in London in Group E, and the fans had the opportunity to see another draw in that assembly, as Rennes and Krasnodar played 1-1.
Ciro Immobile got even to the team where he couldn’t play and where he experienced the worst time of his career – Borussia Dortmund. Lazio beat the Germans, 3-1 in Group F, and the Club Brugge made a massive surprise in St. Petersburg, where they defeated Zenit with 1-2.
Finally, in Group G, both favorites posted wins. Juventus was better than Dynamo Kyiv in Ukraine, 0-2, with Alvaro Morata scoring a brace, while Barcelona demolished Ferencvaros at Camp Nou, 5-1, even though Gerard Pique received a red card in the second half.
