Megan Markle, Sharon Osbourne, And More Open Up On World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day was Saturday and celebrities took the time in multiple ways to let the public know that it’s okay not to be okay. Whether it was sharing their personal stories, donating to foundations, or sharing resources on where to find help — it was great to see public figures be so open about their struggles.

Two of those celebrities were Megan Markle and Sharon Osbourne.

Megan has been the target of racist, classist, and misogynistic attacks since she started dating and eventually married Prince Harry.

The couple appeared on Teenager Therapy podcast where she revealed she was 2019’s most trolled person. This was from data collected in which a celebrity is mentioned and criticized on the internet whether it be via social media posts, comments, or articles written about her.

Markle opened up: ‘I can speak personally too, I’m told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the entire world, male or female. Now, 8 months of that I wasn’t even visible — I was on maternity leave or with a baby. But what was able to be manufactured and churned out, it’s almost unsurvivable. I don’t care if you’re 15 or you’re 25, if people are saying things about you that aren’t true, what that does to your mental and emotional health is so damaging.’

Sharon Osbourne revealed yesterday on The Talk that she tried to take her life four years ago. In 2014, she revealed that she had been on medication for depression for over a decade.

‘Four years ago I was finding things very, very difficult and … I tried to take my life and it wasn’t for attention,” the star admitted. “I just couldn’t bear it. I went to a place to give me help.’

At the facility, she encountered girls that lost their mothers due to suicide and struggled with addiction ever since. This gave her insight on what it would be like for her own children had she gone through with it.

Mindy Kaling, Lily Collins, Alysa Milano, and more also brought awareness to the special day.
