During her acceptance speech at the CMA Awards yesterday, Maren Morris, paid tribute to some very deserving women in the industry! The country singer won the award in the Female Vocalist of the Year category, a huge honor!
But even though that was her moment, Maren Morris wanted to use this opportunity and share the spotlight with all the ‘amazing Black women’ in country music!
She gushed during the speech: ‘I love you so much, all the women in this category. I’m going to try not to curse. I’m sorry… if I do. I’m really not going to. Thank you so much to my team. I have a lot of people to thank, and they are the typical ones who made this dream come true with me, but there’s some names in my mind that I want to give recognition to, because I am just a fan of their music, and they are as country as it gets. I want them all to know how much we love them. And check out their music after this.’
She went on to name drop Yola, Linda Martell, Mickey Guyton, Brittney Spencer, Rissi Palmer, and Rhiannon Giddens.
