The San Francisco 49ers posted a big win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football, 24-16. Kyle Shanahan’s side, not only reached a 3-3 record, but also beat a divisional rival, keeping themselves in the race for the No.1 spot of the NFC West.
The big derby of the West Coast saw the Niners bouncing back following last week’s tough loss against the Miami Dolphins. It was Jimmy Garoppolo who took all the attention, throwing three TDs and more than 200 yards in the first half. Jimmy G led his team to a win, holding everything in his hands throughout the entire match.
The hosts scored on their first drive, which was a massive boost for the SF quarterback. He threw a 6-yard pass to Deebo Samuel for that first score. San Francisco doubled the lead with just 46 seconds into the second period once Garoppolo hit George Kittle for a 44-yard pass that led to a TD.
Two sides traded one TD apiece until the halftime, with the note that the Rams failed to make an extra-point conversion. Woods scored for the guests and Brandon Aliyuk for the home team.
Unlike Garoppolo, his colleague, on the other end, Jared Goff had lots of troubles, even though he wasn’t sacked during the entire contest. Goff threw 198 yards, 19-of-38 for two scores and one pick. Tyler Higbee had three catches for 56 yards, and Josh Reynolds two for 45.
Garoppolo’s seven passes ended in Kittle’s arms, with the 49ers TE yielding 109 yards. Deebo Samuel had 66. Raheem Mostert rushed 65 on 17 carries, picking up an injury. He was already vulnerable coming back from another injury, and seeing him sidelined would be a major blow for Kyle Shanahan’s side. Mostert became one of the best rushers in the league and his absence would be a big blow for the 49ers.
Interestingly, there were no turnovers in this match.
The 49ers (3-3) have two very tough matches coming up, against the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks, both on the road. The Pats lost against the Broncos this Sunday, and are in a must-win situation, while Seattle holds the perfect record.
On the other side, the 5-2 Rams host the Chicago Bears, one of the best defenses in the NFL, next Monday night, and after that, travel to Florida to face the surging Miami Dolphins.
