‘In honour of #VeteransDay, today’s #WCW is Marcelite J. Harris, the first black female major general in the US military. While in the Air Force Academy, she became the first female aircraft maintenance officer and one of the first two female commanding officers. Harris also worked as a White House social aide and personal staff officer under Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter,’ Gabrielle began her post.

She continued and wrote: ‘In 1997, she retired from the Air Force as the highest-ranking female officer in the Air Force and the nation’s highest-ranking black woman in the Department of Defense. She was recently buried in Arlington National Cemetery to rest in power. We honour her memory today and every day. Happy Veterans Day. Let us lift her up in the light of goodness and hold her there.’
