Retailer Lists Resident Evil Village For PlayStation 4 And Xbox One Alongside Next-Gen Versions

Resident Evil Village was one of the games present during last month’s Tokyo Games Show, where the game’s director, Morimasa Sato, talked about various aspects of Capcom‘s upcoming horror game, one of which was the possibility of it coming to current-gen consoles, as it was originally announced as a next-gen game.

At the time, Sato said that the series’ eighth main installment is being developed specifically for next-gen consoles, but he didn’t rule out the game coming to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, saying that Capcom is looking into releasing Village for current-gen consoles.

“While Resident Evil Village is being developed specifically for next-generation consoles and PC, we’re looking into delivering the experience on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well. We’re looking into it, but we can’t make any promises, however we will do our best to bring a top-tier survival horror experience to current-generation consoles.”

On Friday, an online retailer Play-Asia listed Resident Evil Village for the following platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5. Of course, this could be an error on the retailer’s part, but it also could mean that the eighth main installment to the Resident Evil series will, in fact, also release on current-gen consoles when it launches next year.

While a lot of people are jumping to the next-generation at launch, some are waiting to make an upgrade, so it would make sense to release the game on all platforms.

Also during last month’s Tokyo Games Show, Resident Evil Village’s director said that the eighth game in the series, which is a direct sequel to 2017’s Biohazard, will be less linear than the previous game, as it’ll be a lot more open, thus giving players more freedom to explore.

“When you take the word ‘village’, people picture a small place. But when you look at Village, it has a colossal, distant feel to it,” said the game’s director. “You have a lot more freedom in Village than in Resident Evil VII. We want players to experiment, to figure out what works for them.”

As of this writing, there’s still no release date attached to Resident Evil Village, but Capcom is planning on releasing the game sometime next year. Whether or not it’ll be released for current-gen consoles in addition to being released for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X remains to be seen, but it’s probably safe to assume that we’ll also get a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version.
